What is this test for?

This test explores a temperament made of oscillations: highs and lows that follow one another faster and more often than average, without necessarily reaching the intensity of an episode. Understanding this pattern helps you steady your rhythms.

Who is it for?

For people who describe themselves as “moody”, “hypersensitive” or “emotional rollercoasters”, and who want to understand this trait better — often present in the orbit of the bipolar spectrum.

How does it work?

For a series of statements, you indicate how much they sound like you. The test gives you a marker of cyclothymic temperament. It is a temperament indicator, not a diagnosis: there is no probability of a disorder, but a reading of how you function.

The science behind this test

This marker is inspired by Akiskal’s TEMPS-A scale (Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, Paris and San Diego), which describes affective temperaments. The cyclothymic subscale has no diagnostic threshold: it is used as a self-description, to discuss with a professional.

The reference tests used by professionals

This questionnaire replaces none of the tools used in consultation. Here are the ones professionals actually use:

Frequently asked questions

Is cyclothymia an illness?

Here we are talking about temperament — a stable way of being, not an episode. A marked cyclothymic temperament can be useful ground to know; only a professional can assess whether to go further.

Why no probability, unlike the other tests?

Because a temperament scale describes a trait, with no validated screening threshold for a disorder. We prefer to stay honest: we give you a reading of how you function, not a misleading percentage.

Do my answers stay private?

Yes: everything is computed locally in your browser, nothing is sent. An (optional) account lets you save the result, encrypted and readable only by you.
